Description

Canadian Peatmoss (Medium Grade) is a pre-inoculated, high-quality base material for building custom soil mixes. This grade contains a mix of medium down to finer particle sizes, making it the most versatile option for full-term growing mixes where plants will spend their entire cycle — from transplant through to harvest — in the same container.

Peatmoss is the industry standard base material for good reason: it holds moisture exceptionally well, provides a stable and consistent structure, is naturally acidic (which pairs well with liming agents like oyster lime, wollastonite, and gypsum for precise pH targeting), and has a high cation exchange capacity that helps hold and buffer nutrients in the root zone. Our Canadian peatmoss comes pre-inoculated, giving it a biological head start over raw, sterile peat — meaning soil biology can establish faster once the mix is built and amended.

Use as the foundation of your soil mix, then amend with your chosen mineral, fertility, and aeration inputs. Buffer the pH with liming ingredients to suit your target range — an unbuffered peatmoss will sit quite acidic on its own. The medium grade particle size distribution provides a good balance of water retention and air porosity without needing heavy aeration additions, though most growers will still add perlite, pumice, rice hulls, or similar to dial in drainage.

High-quality base material for custom soil mixes.

Use as a base medium, typically 40–60% of a container or potting mix. Pre-wet thoroughly before use — dry peat repels water — and buffer with lime to lift the naturally low pH (around 3.5–4.5). Pair with perlite or pumice for aeration and compost or amendments for fertility. Long-fibred and high water-holding, it gives roots a light, stable medium to establish in.

Soil people, same as you.

Soil Supply Co. started because we got sick of paying premiums for inputs that under-delivered. If we wouldn't put it in our own soil, it's not on the shelf.
