Chitin is liberated predominantly via chitinase enzymes produced by soil microbes, and the presence of chitin itself supports the ongoing production of these enzymes — meaning regular use continually bolsters enzyme activity in your soil. Chitin elicits an immune response from the plant via its SAR (Systemic Acquired Resistance). Its real strength is in raising pest resilience and overall plant immunity — driven by that chitin content, much like our crustacean meal.
