Washed Perlite is a pre-washed, dust-minimised additive used to improve drainage and aeration in growing media. Perlite starts life as a natural volcanic glass, but the white granules in the bag are manufactured, not mined: the raw ore is heated until the water trapped inside flashes to steam and puffs it up like popcorn, expanding it many times over into the lightweight material growers know. Unlike standard perlite straight from the bag, our washed perlite has had the fines removed — eliminating the clouds of irritating dust that make regular perlite unpleasant to work with, and reducing the amount of powdered material that can clog soil pores and impede drainage over time.
Available in two grades — coarse and jumbo — so you can match the particle size to your specific application. Coarse grade is the all-rounder for general potting mixes and containers. Jumbo grade provides maximum airflow and drainage for large containers, raised beds, or mixes that need serious compaction resistance. Both grades are extremely lightweight, making them ideal for situations where keeping overall mix weight down is a priority — rooftop gardens, hanging baskets, or any container that needs to be moved.
