Description

Karanja Meal is a powerhouse organic soil food derived from the seeds of Pongamia pinnata, an evergreen leguminous tree. The seeds are pressed for their valuable oil, then dried, crushed, and graded to produce this nutrient-dense meal — sometimes called karanja cake. Often mentioned alongside neem meal, the two share similarities in their effects but are distinct ingredients with unique synergy when used together.

Karanja meal is much loved by earthworms and soil microbes alike, rapidly being broken down and assimilated into the soil food web. It also delivers complementary IPM benefits, helping prevent problematic pests like fungus gnats in much the same way neem does. Anecdotally, growers using this ingredient have reported increases in flavour and oil production. Unlike neem, there's no strong odour — karanja carries only a very mild, nutty aroma, making it far more pleasant to work with indoors.

Soil people, same as you.

Soil Supply Co. started because we got sick of paying premiums for inputs that under-delivered. If we wouldn't put it in our own soil, it's not on the shelf.
