Description

Magnesium Carbonate (Magnesite) is a slow-release, non-sulphate source of magnesium that doubles as a soil pH buffer — raising pH in much the same way as lime or oyster shell powder, but supplying magnesium instead of calcium. If you've used dolomite, you've used something similar — dolomite is calcium magnesium carbonate, while this is purely magnesium and carbon without calcium tagging along. That distinction lets you fine-tune your calcium-to-magnesium ratios with real precision, rather than being forced to add both every time you adjust pH.

Magnesium is critical to enzymatic processes throughout the plant's life cycle, and running short of it will affect overall performance drastically — particularly flower quality and yield. Because magnesium carbonate is insoluble and non-acidic, it fills a completely different role to ingredients like kieserite or soluble magnesium sulphate, providing a long-term background supply rather than a quick soluble hit.

Magnesium (25%)

Provides magnesium and raises (buffers) soil pH without adding calcium.

This is an insoluble mineral that takes time to show results, so incorporate it as far ahead of planting as possible. Apply at 5–20 ml per 5 L of soil for a standard rate, or 25–40 ml per 5 L for heavier application. As a general rule, 1 cup (250 ml) dug into soil is a solid starting point alongside your chosen buffering ingredients. For top-dressing, a little goes a long way — a teaspoon per 40 L pot may be sufficient, and it works best blended into craft-style fertiliser mixes rather than applied alone. Testing your soil's existing magnesium levels and pH before dosing is recommended.

Soil people, same as you.

Soil Supply Co. started because we got sick of paying premiums for inputs that under-delivered. If we wouldn't put it in our own soil, it's not on the shelf.
