Malted Barley
Malted Barley is a natural, organic soil amendment made from barley that has been germinated and then dried — a process that activates the full range of enzymes within the grain. Of all the malted grains, barley possesses the widest range of enzyme types and the highest diastatic value compared to alternatives like wheat or rye, making it the gold standard for enzyme-driven soil biology.
Available in both ground and unground forms, our malted barley comes from an organic source that has been tested effectively nil for glyphosate and its derivatives by a leading Australian laboratory. This matters — even food-grade malted barley has an allowable level of glyphosate residue, so food grade alone guarantees nothing. We searched for a long time to find a source we were confident in, and we grind it on clean, stainless steel equipment to a fine consistency. Pre-milling has not shown any scientific decrease in enzyme availability to any appreciable degree, especially when sealed, but we also supply it unmilled for those who prefer to grind theirs on the day of use.
Its real value is the enzymes and carbohydrates it delivers: these feed soil microbes, accelerate nutrient cycling, and support stronger root development and microbial activity. It's an enzyme amendment first and foremost — it isn't there to shift soil pH or water-holding.

Soil people, same as you.
Soil Supply Co. started because we got sick of paying premiums for inputs that under-delivered. If we wouldn't put it in our own soil, it's not on the shelf.
